if you have the nike+sport band for running do you have to have the nike shoe to go with it?

I want a nike+sport band for running for christmas and it said something about having somekind of in shoe module that goes with it. does this mean that you have to purchase a nike shoe with the in shoe module or can you have a diffrent type of shoe? because I have saucany brand running shoes, would it still work on those?
